Connect : Connect November 2011
26 I applied for a Veterinarian assignment with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Samoa, a job which had a very wide range of responsibilities. Some things would be fairly easy, others a nice challenge. Then, within weeks of arriving in-country, I was told that the job would expand in responsibility and national animal health decisions would fall on my desk. I would either survive or run whimpering home every night to lick my wounds - hopefully the former. But this anticipated expansion to my role was delayed, possibly indefinitely. Volunteering in a developing country, you come across all manner of unexpected delays and challenges. But you play the hand you’re dealt. And it turns out that I can still make my job rather fun.
